Anderton appeal

D.R
The leaflet of the appeal for subscriptions for the Anderton lift invites the citizen to "start her up"!

The Waterways Trust has launched an appeal for subscriptions to complete the funding of restoration of the "father" of boat lifts, completed in 1875 at Anderton, in the north-west of England. The funding package for restoration, evaluated by the owner British Waterways at 4.6m euros, left a shortfall of 0.4m, which will be funded by the private sector. Subscription forms are addressed to individuals as well as to companies who are invited to sponsor the campaign ("gold patrons" will contribute more than 16 000 euros, while individual sponsors are invited to pledge 400 euros).
This is clearly a good example of citizen involvement in a project to enhance the waterways' cultural and technical heritage.
